Why do we do theatre? Because anything could happen and leaps in the dark are imperative.
Theatre’s not for everyone but I believe it’s still important. There’s something fundamental, something elemental about a collective live experience.
On a good night, theatre can transport people, stir the senses, take you on a journey, and leave you in a place you never expected to be.
Theatre should be exciting and give people a good night out. Theatre should inspire and we can help make the world a better place by finding inspiration.
Nowadays we need to counter the all-pervasive screen use with collective live experiences.
When making theatre we purposely never had a formula. Our ‘ingredients’ for making a show varied. Story, dance, music, script, improvisation, puppetry, design etc.
Cook up the ingredients, generate ideas , take them for a hop, skip and a jump, then select and edit and craft those ideas towards performance.
It’s not easy!
It’s important to keep a sense of play and exploration. Try to keep fear at bay… fear and creativity don’t mix well!
